It’s Not Over

Have you faced something so impossible and tragic that you can’t imagine it ever improve? I’m coming to terms with a long-term challenge right now. Scripture is very powerful to quote at these times. That’s my go-to, but a quote from my childhood helped me during my stage 4 battle. It was, “It’s not over ’till it’s over.” It’s a declaration of hope that meets us at even a low spot. When I said it, I remembered that no matter how badly I felt or how grim it looked, it wasn’t over until I stepped into heaven. As long as I’m breathing, God can work a miracle. If believing in a miracle is too much, take baby steps. God meets us where we are.

24 Immediately the father of the child cried out[a] and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

Mark 4:24

Don’t Have Faith?

In the gospel of Mark, chapter 9, a father came to Jesus to ask for healing for his son. No desperation on earth can match that of a parent wanting to help their sick child. The man’s son was in a tragic state, and they’d been dealing with it for most of his years. Some issues are so embedded and are so much a part of our lives that we can’t imagine being free. The longer we live with it, we have to learn to cope, and it becomes part of our lives. Our gracious God meets us where we are. We don’t have to have great faith but only reach out to the Great One, Jesus. Like the father in Mark chapter four, we can ask Jesus to help us believe, and he will.

23 And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”

Mark 4:23

If you are fatigued from dealing with an issue for years, there’s still hope. It’s not over ’till it’s over. If you aren’t sure you have enough faith, take a moment and ask Him to help your unbelief. He will. Remember, it’s not over until it’s over.
