My mom’s backyard is a virtual vacation spot for the birds. They come to mom’s house every day, knowing they will always have something to eat, drink, and a safe place to build nests. In all my years of watching birds, I’ve never seen them fret. God gives us such a beautiful picture of how much he cares for the birds in Matthew 6:26.
Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow [seed] nor reap [the harvest] nor gather [the crops] into barns, and yet your heavenly fFather keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they?
Matthew 6:26
Lesson from the Birds
I have bird feeders and find so much happiness in filling up the feeders and watching them eat. These sweet little creatures are full of joy as they flutter around the feeder. Isn’t it funny that God gives humans great delight in feeding them? This verse doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t work and expect God to feed us. We must do our work and provide like 1 Timothy 5:8. He wants us to take our place in life as the birds do. The birds control the insect population and they spread the seed around the earth creating new growth. They are doing their job and God provides so richly by giving us the joy to feed them. God’s desire is for us to be carefree like the birds being assured that God will provide for us too.
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
1 Timothy 5:8
The Reminder
When you see the birds happily chirping, hopping from branch to branch, bathing in a puddle, or flitting through the air, consider how God wants us to live joyfully too. God provides as we take our place in his circle of life. He places much more value on us than those birds. God created us and gives us joy in our work and provision for our lives as we walk in his plan and our purpose.
