Life is full of mountains to climb. They represent the pinnacle of our lives and times. It’s the time when we have worked and sacrificed, and we’re on top of it all. We have mountains and valleys spiritually as well. Thanks to my journeys, including cancer, I’ve grown to love the valleys, in retrospect, at least. The spiritual mountains are far more beautiful than any peak I’ve ever climbed. It’s where you can see the beauty and majesty of God. The most wonderful part of this kind of spiritual mountain is the ability to have a spiritual mountain experience while we are in the darkest valleys of our lives. It happened to me during my stage 4 breast cancer battle.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:5-6
Spiritual Mountains
The spiritual doesn’t follow natural rules; it isn’t relegated or encumbered by natural laws, which is why they call it the supernatural. Having tremendous, unexplainable hope and peace during a terminal cancer battle doesn’t follow conventional rules. It happened to me; some of my greatest mountaintop experiences happened during cancer. I experienced all of the emotions of a cancer journey, it wasn’t easy, but in the middle of the pain and fear, it’s where I found God’s grace. He gave me peace that passes understanding. I wasn’t assured that I wouldn’t die; I couldn’t rely on that. However, I had hope and peace that was a steady rock underneath me.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Not A Walk In the Park
Mountaintop living isn’t a walk in the park. I had many ups and downs during the cancer journey. The mountaintop I refer to in the poem is that precious time with God. It’s the place we want to stay; it changes us, it infuses us with His grace and power. When we are full of God, we need to share His love and message with a broken and fallen world.
